Colorful Flowering Plants for Shade Gardens

This list share some of my favourite flowering plants for parts of the garden that meet limited amounts of Sunday ( 4 to 6 hours per Clarence Day ) . Most or all of them will be sell as annuals at garden nurseries . If you ’re lucky , your garden nursery classify the plants by light preference , make it well-situated to find the ones perfect for your growing conditions .

Keep in mind that there are hundreds , if not thousands of hybrids useable , and growing atmospheric condition vary . practice this list as a start gunpoint and then chequer the plant tags before buying to be sure you could provide   what the plant need to be happy .

Also , I always recommend rise plant like these ones in containers . That way of life , you may furnish the best growing metier ( potting mix for containers ) , keep the plant properly watered , and not have to worry about poor growing status or Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree base that tend to interfere with in - ground growing in shady sphere .

Color in the Shade Garden

Most of these examples are from my garden . A massive , old walnut Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree casts heavy shade on this part of the garden , so , instead of battling misfortunate soil and tree diagram origin , I place all the flowering accent plants in containers . With   just an hour or two of late good afternoon sunshine , it ’s staring for the impatiens ( pink ) and dwarf salvia ( crimson ) .

Further back in the garden , the fern are expand . We do n’t really suppose of these as colorful , but they really light up with some dappled sunshine .

Potato vine is a favorite for container horticulture . Here , combined with some gorgeous Petunia by Proven Winners , they thrive in partial sun .

Begonia

I also keep fuchsias in attend pots in the spook garden . They do not like to dry out , and placement out of lineal Dominicus help keep the stain moist .

So pretty !

Another non - flowering pick for color in a shade garden is Heuchera ( shown below in front of thehostas ) . There are so many gorgeous colour these days including prosperous yellows , hopeful greens , orange , and red ink . I would have hundreds of them if I could .

Coleus.

Even one potbelly of colourful flowers is enough to transform a sheer , shade garden area . And , good news , there are plenty more than I have listed here .
