Celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall started Landshare in the U.K. to unite landowners and gardeners. More than 40,000 people registered with the program in its first year.
Landshare
Landshare , a KEO digital project launched by famous person chef Hugh Fearnley - Whittingstall , permit wannabe agriculturalist and the great unwashed who own unused land or garden plots to connection and share resources .
“ [ Landshare ] is in the main about enabling people to produce , but in the unconscious process , can also help oneself achieve positively charged contribution in relation to education , biotic community , health and environment , ” says Jane Lucy , producer of Landshare . “ The ultimate goal is to get as many people raise as possible . ”
While Landshare has successfully taken off , Lucy says one challenge was launching the program deep in the horticulture time of year .
“ We are really count forward to seeing the lead up to spring 2010 , when people will have had more time to prepare and get involved , ” she says .
“ The challenge that stay is making more land available , ” Lucy adds . “ Whilst the proportion of raiser to landowners can be misleading , give most landowners are offering quad for more than one grower , I think it ’s honest to say there is surely still requirement for more land . ” They are addressing that challenge by communicating the benefits of Landshare to more people , including providing type study and finding ways to speed the land - sharing appendage .
While as of spring 2010 , the program is only in the U.K. , Lucy says exchangeable landsharing initiatives survive in the U.S. and Canada , and other countries have expressed sake in seeing the curriculum run to their areas .
