Thanks to an ideal blend of warm atmospheric condition and frequent rainfall , hay seasonhas make it on my northerly Wisconsin farm , which think batch of watching the sky and checking the weather while looking for the arrant clock time to “ make hay while the sun shines . ”
We pop a couple of week ago with two of the quickest - growing fields , and as I write this we ’ve just finish cut another round forbalingin a couple of days . With most of the haying still to derive this season , now is a good time to buy a fresh pair of hay baseball glove .
Hay gloves ? You play . Just as I like to have the right shaft for every job , I also wish to have the ripe gloves for every task . Some are made of leather , some are entwine , some are deerskin draw with Thinsulate , some are designed forwinterwith waterproof inserts , some are made of tough golosh with cotton book binding — you name it , I in all probability have it .

When it comes fourth dimension to hay bales , I choose a sheer , simple couplet of leather gloves — the thick-skulled and sturdy , the better . I do n’t care that much about manoeuvrability and flexibleness here , as this study involves no delicate piece of work that requires finesse in digit movement . alternatively , I need durable mitt that protect my hand while I lift and stack hundreds of bales at a time . After all , lifting square bales that weigh about 50 pounds , by means of two pieces of twine — often while using just one hand — guarantees blisters if your helping hand are n’t suitably protected . Another reason I like leather gloves : They ’re reasonably nerveless during hot weather condition , and because baling hay takes place on sunny daytime during the top of summertime , temperatures can heighten pretty in high spirits , particularly inside the hay barn . Obviously you do n’t want wintertime glove here ( though in a pinch on cool days , they ’re very diffused and protective ) . I find that knit glove do n’t bid enough security , while India rubber gloves just get , well , blotto from sweat .
Of of course , when you utilize baseball glove as intemperately as I do , they can wear out pretty fast . The leather gloves that I use for haying finally develop holes in the fingers where the bale twine repeatedly contacts them . It ’s a shame that they do n’t last longer , but hey , better the gloves pull than my digit .

So with my current pairs of leather gloves begin to show their age , I picked up a new pair for this hay time of year . It might take a day or two to break them in and loose them up ( which is somewhat distinctive , I ’ve receive ) , but before long I bear they ’ll jibe perfectly and be ready for a busybodied summer of bale hay and who roll in the hay what else . If I ’m prosperous , they might even resist the get months of heavy use and last for next class .
