Crazy about Chrysanthemums.
We are have a wonderful November , beautiful cheer and no rime means that there is still plenty of gloss in the garden . I never used to like chrysanthemums , I used to consociate them with dismal pot plant and funeral . But a few years ago I discovered the small-scale bloom Rubellum and Korean chrysanthemums . Do n’t ask me which is which , I ca n’t tell them apart . But they are all adorable . Many of the varieties I have buy in the last distich of year are rare ones propagated by Suffolk Plant Heritage so it is nice to have the append delight of serve to conserve plants on the red inclination .
One of my favourites is ‘ Mavis Smith ’ which was find by a member of Suffolk Plant Heritage in the garden of her Pilates class . It is the tallest and most vigorous of all my chrysanthemum and at once recognisable because of its quilled flower petal which make the flowers front like pink birdie .
I have a ball develop alongside which is another rare chrysanthemum with creamy semi - double flower call ‘ Edelweiss ’ .

Another pink one , but this time with a white annulus at the centre is ‘ Jolie Rose ’ . This is one of my most late purchases and I am very pleased with it .
A great deal of the garden round here seem to growChrysanthemum‘Suffolk Pink ’ . I do n’t love anything about its chronicle but I hypothecate it is a local one . I read that it is very rare but it is not round here , everyone has it . It is a very vigorous one .
I have bought a glowering pinkish one with tiny pompom blossom this yr . It is call ‘ Julia Peterson ’ . It blossom for ages .

Chrysanthemum‘Mei -Kyo ’ is an old miscellany from Japan . It is smothered in pinkish pommy -pom peak for a long period .
I grow it in front of the recollective flowering Rose ‘ Bengal Beauty ’ and alongsideSalviauliginosa .
‘ The Emperor of China ’ is a very old one , Gertrude Jekyll wrote about it in 1880 . It is dead gorgeous with silvern pinkish quilled petals . Its foliage develops Beta vulgaris rubra cerise leaves in late autumn .

‘ Clara Curtis ’ has pale single flower , it is a very sometime miscellanea and it is extremely vigorous .
I have a exclusive , red one which is very pretty and I can not remember its name so I would be very happy if anyone could facilitate me out .
‘ Chrysanthemum”Buxton Ruby ’ has the smallest , darkest , red semi - dual flowers .

Coppery colours are perfect for this meter of the year and ‘ Marion ’ is a rarified semi - double chrysanthemum which is a gorgeous rich apricot .
I buy this next one as ‘ Sonya ’ but I opine it may be wrong mark because when I googled it , the only ‘ Sonya ’ I could retrieve was pinkish . Maybe my champion Anne , who is the propagate fairy for Suffolk Plant Heritage could help us here . Whatever its name , it is a beaut .
Anther rare one which is on the endangered list is gorgeous ‘ Picasso ’ which has masses of double flowers in a lovely , peachy colour .

‘ Golden Greenheart ’ has a forked bed of petals and a distinctive greenish centre . It is rather strange .
My favourite golden chrysanthemum is the late blossom ‘ Chelsea Physic Garden ’ . It has bronze double flowers which are amber on the reverse gear of the petals . It is the last of my chrysanthemums to come up into bloom .
I seem to have rather a destiny of yellow one so next year I shall expect for other colors . Again on the red tilt , I haveChrysanthemum‘Jante Wells ’ which is a rarefied and sought after variety with hopeful scandalmongering flowers .

‘ President Osaka ’ is a another very rare chrysanthemum . It has sprays of virulent yellow bloom .
‘ Cottage Lemon ’ is very like but is much more pronto uncommitted .
I have a few more , but that is probably enough for now . Next year I shall certainly buy some more chrysanthemum because what else fills the garden with such vibrant colour in November ?

I did mean to write about the greenhouse today but the sun was fall and as I walk round the garden there were explosions of gloss everywhere and I wanted to come in and keep them . I hope you will see one or two that you might like to try , they really lighten up the November garden and they bloom for ages .
Before I go , I will give you a little taste of something that is go on in the greenhouse , and that is a ship’s boat chrysanthemum that is just coming into efflorescence and it is quite staggering . It was a present from Cathy atRambling in the Gardenand it is quite stunningly beautiful . It is call ‘ Salhouse Joy ’ and it is sure bringing me a lot of joy ; many thanks Cathy .

I ’d like to see such a wonderful mountain range of chrysanthemums here , where all you find in garden centers are the “ dismal pot plants ” your described in your opening statement . ‘ Salhouse Joy ’ is especially beautiful . I hope you ’ll get to your glasshouse coverage one sidereal day before long , and that perhaps that will feature some of your lovely Nerines . A local ally is interested in growing the these and I sent her to check out your 2019 station on the flowers .
I shall I have to return to this post soon with pen and paper Chloris 😄 I attended a talk by Bob Brown of Cotswold Garden Flowers on Saturday via Zoom organised by the Monmouthshire Hardy Plant Society . He suggested that everyone should grow at least three chrysanthemum in their garden
