On hitch in Hutto last December , we met young gardener Ashley Nava - Monteros and Carlos Monteros who dug out lawn to make wildlife habitat . Originally from El Paso , they bring together works and art that honor their cultural story and affirm wildlife with aboriginal and altered plantings that fly high on clay soil . “ I would draw our garden as the Southwest cottage . I just have a go at it all the flowers . Carlos seems to be more of the cacti enthusiast , ” Ashley told us . translate more about their garden and see their story .
