Having originate up in New England , I realize I ’m a bit spoiled when it come to the notion of “ fall colour . ” The aboriginal forests covering much of the area can broadly be counted upon to put on quite a show . I know I ’m not severalise you anything you do n’t bang here , but the fact remains that no matter where I travel , the 2nd I mention living in New England folks undoubtedly say , “ Oh , it must be beautiful there in surrender . ” Yes , yes it is . But garden are different from aboriginal forests , and unless you make a conjunctive effort to include plants that peak in autumn in your landscape painting , it can look dull — even if you ’re in New England . In many shipway gardeners , regardless of neighborhood , find themselves faced with the same challenge : how to make those beds and borders shine in the months of September , October , and November .
I ’ve address with gardeners from Texas to Montana who all long for colour during these tricky months . Sometimes that color will descend from later - blooming shrubs in warm locales or sometimes from trees responding to cooler temperature in more northern spots . It seems like we ’re all in the same boat , want to make the most of the garden before the off - season . That ’s why I enjoyed the articlePerennials for Fall Colorby Andy Pulte in our upcoming issue . We often forget that perennials — the workhorses of the garden — can put on a spectacle in fall . But Andy outline several that do just that . What ’s even better is that this article was written by an author who does n’t live in New England or some other northern location . He ’s a Tennessean , and his insight will convince you that decline color is almost always achievable , no matter where you garden .
