Foliage and azaleas worth celebrating
Today we ’re visiting Gail Bromer ’s beautiful garden at the top of the continental watershed in the Blue Ridge Mountains of westerly North Carolina :
For much of the yearfoliagetakes center level in my garden . I fuck having a mix ofcolorsandtexturesto enjoy .
The murk is rolling in from lower on the mint to meet this garden . While some folks are not fond of creeping Jenny(Lysimachianummularia‘Aurea ’ , Zone 3 – 9 ) , I like the dividing line it play . Here it ’s seen with a gnome Brandywine split foliage Japanese maple(Acerpalmatum , Zone 5 – 9 ) , Gaity euonymous(Euonymous fortunei‘Gaity ’ , Zone 4 – 9 ) , Cavatine pieris(Pierisjaponica‘Cavatine ’ , Zone 5 – 8) , Old Gold juniper(Juniperusx pfitzeriana‘Old Gold ’ , Zone 4 – 9 ) , a purple gazing ball and a metal frog sculpture .

Hardscapealso brings a wonderful element to the garden . These Isidor Feinstein Stone stairs go in a duo years ago to replace the wooden one . The step had to be placed in a wider arc which gave us an chance to produce terracing along the side and a wonderful planting region for a combination ofsmall shrubsandannuals . An azalea(Rhododendronhybrid ) and other little shrubs have a piazza along with a sport annual early in the time of year .
A bronzecoleus(Coleus scutellarioides , Zone 10 – 11 or as annual ) stand by in the top of an onetime tree pulpit gives a splash of color along thiswoodlandpath .
Fall is come . The Bloodgood maple(Acerpalmatum‘Bloodgood ’ , Zone 5 – 9 ) here is get word with the yellowed leafage of a bottlebrush buckeye(Aesculusparviflora , Zone 4 – 8) , and a large alloy Hero sculpture .

This fair young Bobo hydrangea(Hydrangea paniculata‘Bobo ’ , Zone 3 – 8) is still beautiful as fall begins .
The lace caphydrangea(Hydrangea macrophylla , Zone 5 – 9 ) in the centre is surrounded byChamaecyparis‘Vintage Gold ’ ( Zone 5 – 8) , and Golden Pacific juniper(Juniperusconferta , Zone 6 – 9 ) .
I was fortunate to be asked to rescue some strength deciduous azaleas . They werepropagatedlovingly by tissue polish and moved to the pile of North Carolina to hold back for the time and place to be found . As it happened not all of those plants find homes .

I was felicitous to bring some household and share many with area gardener . Unfortunately most of the works rag had fall off .
I did get some blooms this twelvemonth , but have n’t yet identified them . I be intimate they are from the balds of North Carolina or are from the Strickland and Sommerville collection .
I am so thankful that these plants were shared with me . I ’m like a kid at Christmas thirstily hold back to see each one bloom for the first time . I have no estimation what wonders await !
