A cold, short season doesn’t stop this gardener
A perennial seam in early August in the late afternoon glow after a thundershower . The remnants of driedAlliumthat flowered in spring can be seen . Dominant efflorescence areRudbeckia‘Goldensturm ’ ( Zones 4–9 ) , purple coneflowers(Echinaceapurpurea , Zones 3–8 ) , red bee balm(Monardadidyma , Zones 4–9 ) a piece past peak , and hydrangea(Hydrangea arborescens , Zones 3–8 ) . Off to the rightfield is feather reed ornamental grass(Calamagrostisacutiflora , Zones 5–9 ) .

A tiger morning coat butterfly stroke that has alit on a potted zinnia(Zinniaelegans , annual ) on the patio . Lake Michigan can be learn in the distance .

The nerve pathway to the front door on the street side of the menage flanked by two flowering lilac shrubs(Syringa‘Miss Kim ’ , Zones 3–8 ) and pots of annuals .

Tulipsand asaucer magnolia(Magnolia × soulangeana , Zones 4–9 ) delineate the drive on the street side .

Below the top of the bluff , hide from panorama , are terraced layer for growing vegetables . The terracing was created by pounding in conduit pipe vertically to hold up lumber behind them , then filling in with topsoil and compost . Adrip irrigation systemwas also installed and is controlled by the lawn watering system .

Except for the veggie beds near the top of the four flush , we have tried to getnative wildflowersto extend most of the steep bluff . I am partial to purpleasters(Symphyotrichum novae - angliae , Zones 4–8 ) . This image shows a pollinator conventionality taking seat on a cluster of asters . A crowned head and other butterflies can be learn as well as numerous bee .
