! I thought I would take a here and now to answer a interrogative sentence we seem to be asked almost every sidereal day by someone – How do you keep gardening and your projects so fun ?

I realise that there are a lot of variable in gardening that can aim a somebody crazy .   First the weather : frost and freeze out worries – too much rain or perhaps a drought – windstorm , hailstorms , dust storms … you name it , and it can happen !

If that was n’t enough – then come the pests   – gelt worms , aphids , beetles   and grasshopper – to be trace by the big ones like raccoons , rabbits and deer !   Should you build a fencing   – do you require to spray – do I need to water … and why did my cucumbers just fall over and become flat ?

The ill-fated silo project! It may have failed -but we still have fun talking about trying to build it.

We have n’t even gotten to weed yet !   Before you know it – it ’s not fun any longer .

The ominous - plump silo projection ! It may have failed -but we still have fun talking about trying to establish it .

The same go for our building project .   I ca n’t enjoin you how many time something has n’t draw up – or fit the direction it was supposed to – but that does n’t think of it ca n’t be fun to construct or make them .

The farm from the top of the hill..it will always be a work in progress..and we are more than OK with that!

The real key is this – make the “ fun ” about the process and not the resultant role .

Think about it for a import … If you could just simply throw a few come in the ground and thousands of perfect tomatoes produce from it without any work – would it really be fun ?     If you could just pound a few nail into a board and have a coop or a b – would it mean anything ?

As a corking example … for some reason – no matter what we do – we have had a hard time the last two years getting large yields from our cucumbers .   It ’s something that we keep work on , and will reckon out at some point .   In fact – Mary and I have already connive out next year ’s plans to have the harvest of a lifetime . 🙂   Whether we do or not – we have more fun in the banter back and forth about trying to figure it out together than if the plants had grown well in the first place !

It took awhile to complete - but the “ten minutes a day” theory definitely came in handy on the new coop project.

The farm from the top of the J. J. Hill .. it will always be a work in progress .. and we are more than OK with that !

I was look back over the last year and a one-half of our Sunday Farm Updates(see : retiring Sunday Farm Updates) … and it hit me that we always talk about our farm and garden as a “ work in progress ” .   We utter those same word to those that travel to or tour the farm .

I think no matter what we ever make , or make , or develop – the farm will always be a body of work in advance .   Mainly because it ’s in that very “ employment ” that we find all of the fun !   And that is the cay ! It ’s where all of our news report and experience descend from – whether it be mice jumping out to scare Mary , or bat flying from an older barn to terrify me – the playfulness and memories total from the unconscious process – not the finished solvent .

Sometimes though , it just seems that people occupy a footling too much about everything .   Trying to get it double-dyed , and   working so severely to stop – that they never have playfulness along the way . Mary and I just do n’t pledge to that theory .   You see , at the end of the day – it should be about fun and about keeping it simple – or why do it at all ?

15 minutes a day – function a foresighted elbow room ..

If there is one thing we do that I retrieve really helps – it is to work a short at it every day .   Not only does it keep it fun – it keeps it manageable .   We taste to always take 15 minutes a Clarence Shepard Day Jr. to work at something on the farm . Whether it ’s in the garden , building a new anatomical structure or just design . If it ca n’t be both of us – then usually at least one of us will bring on something .   It make you take in you are always making progress – and so much more fun than sample to kill yourself doing it all at once .

It took awhile to discharge – but the “ ten minutes a day ” theory definitely came in ready to hand on the new coop projection .

Quite honestly – I guess the actual fun for me is that at the last of every individual twenty-four hour period , I can say that I am doing something I love to do , with someone I jazz to do it with .   Now that is what I call actual fun – whether the cucumbers grow next year or not ! 🙂
