He says,“I have been a nurseryman all of my living since I grew up helping my father , who loved having a veggie garden , and my mother , who roll in the hay rose and beautiful flower bed . When my wife and I got our own home 25 years ago , I was excited to have my very own ground to be creative with and soon had a small vegetable garden , flower beds , and H2O features .
“ During the winter of 2012 , I attended a presentation on creating a butterfly garden utilizing aboriginal plants and this really get my interestingness ! That spring , I amplify my antecedently small vegetable garden into a much heavy garden for not only aboriginal works but my favorite annuals and butterfly stroke nectaring plants . I currently have 54 dissimilar species of native plants in my garden , with some favorites being Joe Pye mourning band , cardinal flower , boneset , anise hyssop , purplish coneflower , queen of the prairie , ironweed , various blazing stars , five unlike species of milkweed , bee balm , orange coneflower , and many others .
“ I also have added some of my favourite non - native such as zinnias , cleome , lantana , ‘ Victoria Blue ’ salvia , delphinium , and Mexican sunflower . I was thrilled to have over 25 dissimilar species of butterflies visit my garden last summertime and beautiful deep red - throated hummingbird every day !

“ My hobby of photography dove - tails beautifully with my gardening and I spend clip nigh every summer day capturing the beautiful bird and butterfly visitor as well as the unbelievable beauty of the flowers . Additionally , I have become concerned in helping carry on the Monarch butterfly and by planting silkweed as a larva nutrient source and numerous flower as a nectaring generator , I was able to get my garden certified as an officialMonarch WaystationbyMonarch Watch . ”
