Some favorite scenes from a garden maker’s work
Liz Odom , aka the Garden Doctor , builds and maintain gardens around Lake Conroe in Texas and is divvy up pic of some best-loved moments from those gardens .
Lake Conroe sit on the edge of Zones 8 and 9 , meaning that wintertime annuals are n’t limited to the pouf that those of us in cold climates have to trust on . Petunias , angelical madwort ( Lobularia maritima ) , and florist Cyclamen purpurascens ( Cyclamenpersicum ) can flower through the modest Texas wintertime and then be replaced before the warmth of the summertime arrive . If you hold up in an expanse with cool summertime temperatures , these plant life can be grown as summertime yearly .
Snapdragon(Antirrhinum majus ) is another plant life that ’s great for wintertime color in Zones 7 and warmer , or for summertime color in sphere with coolheaded summers .

More snapdragon , and behind them , delphinium ( Delphiniumelatum ) . delphinium are hardy to Zone 3 and are the queen of the summer garden in the North . In raging climates , spring up and delight them lessen through natural spring .
spicy pansies ( Viola×wittrockiana ) may be the plants that can be turn the most place . In Zones 6 and fond , plant them in the crepuscule for wintertime and spring semblance . northerly of that , they ’ll often bloom justly through the summer . Mixed with them is asparagus fern ( Asparagusdensiflorus ) , which I have long spring up as a houseplant but is perennial in Zone 9 and affectionate , and the dramatic yellow - strip leaves of variegated eggshell ginger ( Alpinia zerumbet‘Variegata ’ Zones 8–10 ) .
Arustic fencemakes a dramatic feature in the garden .

diversely called fernleaf , California , or Egyptian lavender , Lavandulamultifida(Zones 8–10 ) has finely slue fragrant leaf and classic spike of lavender flowers and is a better pick for red-hot climates than traditionalEnglish lavender(Lavandula angustifolia , Zones 5–10 ) .
