I care to habituate as much as potential on the homestead by reusing and recycling wherever potential and whilst I compost the coop bedding normally however , I need to make another compost heap or do something else with it .   My family and I start out pulling all of the dirty bedding out and aim it in awheelbarroworheavy duty cartand put it on the garden ; sawdust , shuck manure and all .

Take a look at my latest video below to see what mulch I employ in my organic veggie gardens .

I have ano - jab gardenand I ’m hoping that by sum up the bedding too soon enough will give it the opportunity to split up down enough before the growing time of year starts .   We will be adding our homemade compost on top of the coop bedding to plant into in early leaping .

For our garden , the dirty poulet hencoop bedding acts as amulch suppressing weeds and as a fertilizer feeding the soil .

If you dig your garden , you cantillthe bedding in to ensure it has thoroughly compost .   If you have a heavy clay ground , fall is the ideal time to change by reversal over the soil to let the frost collapse the clods up .

This was my allotment plot of ground when I first took it , the ground was a very grave remains and the undercoat hard handle in chemical fertilizer and pesticides .   I dug over share of the allotment to allow the frost to bump up the clay ready to embed in the spring .

Clay soils are high in nutrients and are very prolific once the structure has been open up with the addition of plenty of constitutional issue like compost .

The garden I presently have is sandy with plenty of pebbles in it .   The improver of manure , mulch and compost should serve increase water and nutrient retention over meter .

scatter compost on the garden beds can help keep back moisture and add humous to sandlike soils and better dirt structure to clay stain .

Winter does n’t break off the composting process , in fact we have several composters in our garden and you could too no matter where you homestead .   We want to ensure we have enough compost to see us through the spring up season and to spread on top of the winter mulch used across the garden to plant into .

We expend aBokashi composterto take care of cooked center and Pisces or bones and dairy as remnant from the kitchen ( which was greatly put to use after Thanksgiving ! ) , aworm composterto deal some plant waste and dog the skinny ( yup , we compost that for the non - fruiting trees and perennial ) and a large compost heap .

There are pile of options available for theurban squatter in an apartmentall the mode to the suburban homesteader on an acre raft in the suburbs .   There are composters ranging from anindoor worm composterandBokashi composterto prominent pallet compost structures to fast atumbling composterfor larger garden .

no dig gardening, no dig farming

Winter is a great time to start compost and eitherbuy a composterorbuild one .

This was the start of our composter and leaf mould a week after moving in back in 2015 , it was mostly eggshells , teatime , coffee grinds and fall leave of absence believe it or not !

The compost develop as the seasons changed to supply more green goddess press clipping , some wood ash from summer fire in the backyard , woody plant fabric like Brassica oleracea italica husk and chicken coop bedding .

I mostly utilize leave as a mulch on top of the garden seam and making folio mold in awire composterto use on the garden the next dusk .

If you are interested about the “ N robbing ” of the grease by high carbon mulch , you’re able to add together high N manure on top or underneath the mulch .   Some manures have higher atomic number 7 content than others ; chicken manure is one of the high and if you do n’t have admittance to fresh chicken manure , stress agranulated organic chicken manurefrom the store .
