Today ’s photos are from Dan Koellen in Roseville , California . Dan says,“We live on on three acres with our three horses , using two of the acre for pastures , bowl , and barn . I have lived here for almost fourteen years , move in after I conjoin my wife , who built the menage about twenty eld ago . After moving in I initiate to work with the ‘ contractor canonic ’ landscape to add more interesting flora , thin body of water needs , and tally merriment .
“ In the Sacramento area the summers are very blistering and dry with no rain and high in C being very common . This can be a challenge in building a garden but I have bask finding plants that will endure , and hopefully prosper , in those conditions .
“ Working on the garden for this foresightful of a period gave me a prospect to witness the organic evolution of a garden : full sun areas that are now in shadowiness much of the day ; plants that puzzle out well and those that do n’t ; and understanding the different microclimates in the garden . I am amazed how well flora conform to changing conditions , plants that should be in full sun often accommodate well to shade when the modification from sun to fill in is gradual over a decennary due to the ontogenesis of overstory trees .

“ Though many of our neighbors grow citrus , nut , and other fruit Tree and have turgid vegetable gardens I have not indulged . I sharpen on Tree , bush , and perennials , though last year I started develop beer hops . The signature of my garden is my animal topiaries ; though enjoy by all they require a peck of clock time due to frequent ‘ haircuts ’ needed during the warm weather growing seasons .
“ The last few year I have focused on learning about and implementing optimise water delivery to plants , using plant with blue water needs , and utilize California natives in the garden . I am continuing to quest after this cable of horticulture . ”
So cool , Dan ! I peculiarly love , love , make love the Loch Ness topiary in the last photo ! And we postulate to know more about the sculpture in the first photo , please … **Check out the legend on each photo for more information * *
