SixOnSaturday
The universe is bait me . Now that we ’re back off vacation the weather is fabulous . Sigh . On this bank holiday weekend , the Reading Festival is in full golf shot , my horticulture will be accompanied by the distant thumps and windfall of the euphony ( well , some of it is euphony ) . Various teen of this household will be going through this local rite of transit , lurch in hungover at all 60 minutes in need of food and a shower . While they ’re doing all that , I will be busy . After 3 or 4 workweek of limited time ( and , frankly , enthusiasm ) , I have quite a list of things to do in the garden this weekend , it ’s beginning to look a picayune unkempt in places . At least I wo n’t be distracted for long by the 3rd Ashes test ! Deary me . Anyhow , time for Six on Saturday . Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything – a flower , a harvest home , an insect , a favourite instrument , a problem to do , anything at all . Join in !
For this hebdomad ’s Six we are back in my garden …

1 – Salvia microphylla ‘ pinkish blush ’ . buy a year ago in the end of season sale , this plant spend most of the intervening time in its flowerpot . I finally implant it in the front garden as part of the novel planting scheme ( which is a grand term for me plonk plants in passably at random ) . By this time it was fairly drab looking . I cut it back and hop for the best . It took its meter , but did respond over the summer , position on some newfangled growth . It is now flowering nicely . I think I prefer it to ‘ blistering - lips ’ .
2 – Mina lobata , spanish flag . Success ! I ’ve been trying to grow this woeful industrial plant for a few eld with no joy . Either the seed never germinated , or did n’t thrive when they did . This year I handle two garden - suitable plants . They have done a jolly good job cover the front garden fence and have start to flower well too . Chuffed .
3 – Thunbergia alata , black - eyed susan vine . stay in the front garden , Fred post me some come and I ended up with 8 or 9 plant . I put some at the foundation of a cane wig - wam and some along the fenceline . Neither chemical group has thrived , but now they are order on some growth and have set out to flower , although lower down than I ’d like . This flower is about 30 cm from the ground – not with child for a climber ! I project to farm more annual climbers next year , I need to do some seed catalogue enquiry …

4 – Physalis alkekengi , Taiwanese lanterns . A few hebdomad ago these were still very green , but they have quickly turned . The flowers are forgettable in comparing . A nice bright addition to the front garden .
5 – Eupatorium purpureum , joe pye weed . I grew these from seminal fluid this year . I have n’t been pay attention to this one , planted in the corner of the front garden , so I ’m not certain if this flower head is still emerging , or if it has go over . The former I think .
6 – Persicaria amplexicaulis x ‘ Fat Domino ’ . This sole example from the back garden was originate from seed last yr . The plants are doubly the height they were last summertime . They wo n’t have total wholly true , so the peak spikes are perhaps less Fat than the parent plant . Perhaps Domino has been on a diet . I have catch this plant described as “ not over - exuberent ’ , and although the plants are more vigorous than last year , they do seem to be behaving themselves . They flower for months and our buzzy friends seem to appreciate them . I in all likelihood necessitate to fag a few up and spread them about to prevent over-crowding .

Have a endearing gardening weekend , and do n’t block to pop back during the mean solar day as more links get added .
I ’ll be back next weekend with another # SixOnSaturday .
