SixOnSaturday

I finished the 43 mile raceway last weekend in a smidge over 8 hours , not bad for an old fart . Inevitably I was glued to the lounge for the rest of the weekend , no gardening was contemplated , never mind done . perhaps this weekend ? Time for Six on Saturday . Six thing , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything , a flower , a beastie , a job to do , a winner , a nonstarter , anything at all . Join in !

Here are my Six for this weekend …

1 – Wisteria , unpruned . I have n’t quite got around to doing the winter prune of the wisteria . I normally do it over the Christmas holiday but this was on a farseeing list of things I did n’t do in the garden . It face like it might be quite dry this weekend , so there is at least the opportunity , if not needfully the motive , to tick this job off the tilt . It would only take ten minutes …

2 – Compost wad . It ’s been a while since we ’ve had a compost photo . With no lawn mow at this metre of year , the primary “ green ” material is veggie shedding , with “ John Brown ” coming from composition board or in this case shred paper . IN the past I have scavenged for “ greens ” at my local brewery , spent hops being freely usable . Ca n’t be devil at the second ! I hear tell that Jim , of this parish , is no longer running a heap , instead scatter ingredients on the surface of his veg plot with effective event . Heretic or revolutionary , you settle !

3 – Eye of Sauron . Well , Sauron has got something in his eye , poor sod ca n’t see a affair . It take a good clearing up and a sweep , possibly a bit of a seat down with a cupper . Another thing I need to do …

4 – Pheasant ’s Tail grass , altogether too much of it . From nowhere ( well , actually from seeds ) , I have massive clumps of this ready to snag or trip the unwary nurseryman as they contemplate close up the scale of their negligence . I just ask to dig the sod up and bin them . They would be a perfect bit to plant the remaining Narcissus pseudonarcissus bulbs that are still glare at me from inside their box seat .

5 – cornu ‘ Mid - wintertime fire ’ . This shrub , now quite large , was grown from a cutting . I think I will enjoy its colouring for another calendar month or two , then cut it roight baaack .

6 – Prunus kojo no mai . A rather shivering close - up of buds . Wo n’t be long before this ornamental cherry is in flower , for about 5 transactions while my back is turned .
