Six on Saturday. 2025-02-08
We have been away in Wales which is beautiful but rather wet . It is endearing to get home to tender cheer and unexampled delights in the garden .
My first goody is the thirstily look October - blossom wood anemone , Galanthus reginae - olgaesubsp . reginae - olgae . deplorable about the tautology , I did n’t name it . In fact when I first grew this wood anemone it was calledGalanthus corcyensis . As it comes from sunny Greece , it prefer a sheltered , sunny position although I have it growing quite gayly in the shade .

Next I have a Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree which does n’t bet very amazing at the moment , although some yr the pretty heart - influence leaves colour up nicely . To appreciate it by rights , you want a ‘ scratch and sniff ’ computer . It is a weeping tree diagram calledCercidiphyllum japonicum‘Pendula ’ . At this time of the yr , I enjoy process near it and I have planted it where I will pass it regularly . The autumn leaves smell of candy floss or toffee apples . Absolutely yummy .

This yr my quince tree , Cydonia oblonga‘Vranja ’ is so ladened with weighed down fruit that the branches look as if they might break under the weight . The quince bush was suppose to be the ‘ golden Malus pumila ’ with which Eve tempted Adam in the Garden of Eden . Presumably they had cookery facility because I would n’t like to eat one raw . The Ancient Greeks believed that a quince tree diagram sprung up wherever Aphrodite stepped so the fruit was associated with love and fertility . I love the quince not just for its classical association and its golden , furred fruit , but because in bound it has the prettiest blossom .

A bowl of yield will fill a room with a marvellous scent . They are undecomposed bake in pies with apples . And of class they make marvellous Cydonia oblonga Malva sylvestris , Membrillo .
Whilst on the subject of gold , this jasmine is lighting up my cloak-and-dagger garden at the moment . In summer it is more lime- green but in September it turns smart shimmer gold . It is calledJasminum officinalis‘Fiona Sunrise ’ I do n’t know who Fiona is but I would grow this endearing flora even if it did n’t have fragrant flush in summer .

I had the wrought Fe bench made to match the wanderer web gate which you might have seen on other posts . It seems appropriate at the bit as spiders are very much in evidence in the October garden . This one is enjoying a large rainfly .

As we have class coming to tiffin tomorrow I have picked a stadium of October flowers ; dahlias and Michaelmas daisies .
So there are my Six on Saturday . I wish I could make a header of a neat course of exposure as so many of the Six on Saturday club do . alas I have n’t master the engineering science for that . I must work on it for next time . Meanwhile many thanks to ThePropagatorwho legion this meme and enjoy the repose of your weekend .

hump how you love Anemone quinquefolia , I ca n’t conceive of find a better gift from your grateful garden upon your return . I ’ve no idea how quince smells but , based on your description , I ’m rummy to get a sniff ; however , my western garden guide tells me that get hold any of these plant in my area is an unconvincing proposition . Of course , I love your bountiful flower arrangement too . bask your family visit !
A abrasion - and - snuff computer – now that would be nice ! I ’m glad you ’re happily home and enjoying the dish all around you . Such a lovely fragrancy !
