SixOnSaturday

There ’s no two ways about it , we have come in Autumn . Temparatures have dropped to seasonal average , overcast skies are more usual , there has even been some worthwhile rain . Moreover , leave are beginning to turn and the garden is starting to show signs of needing a ripe tidy up . I know we are supposed to allow for “ done ” perennial for seed heads and structure , but about now I have an almost resistless urge to hack on things down and educate for next year . I ’m going to endeavor to lead that until this time next month . While we look for that , it ’s time for Six on Saturday . What ’s that , I listen you ask ? Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything – a gnome , a pond , a prime , a harvest , a pesterer , a plan , anything at all . Join in !

Here are my Six for this week :

1 – Colocasia esculenta ‘ Black Coral ’ . I bought this and another green genus Colocasia in a recent half hearted trip to the garden heart and soul . I was see for bargains but all they had was a couple of twelve of these at half price . Once I got home I remember that they are not stout and will require lifting for the winter . That ’s a flake of a pain , but for now I ’ll leave alone it in its hatful . They should get to a few feet tall next year and will provide a bit of leaf interest .

2 – Aster ‘ Little Carlow ’ . A hope of thing to come , this glob is just let going . There are zillions of blossom buds . I occupy cut of this earlier in the yr , as one does , so I should have a few more clunk in old age to occur .

3 – Lupin ‘ Tequila Flame ’ , seedling of . I collected some seeds from a bought lupin and regain that they can be sown in the autumn , last ahead and sow in them in late August . They germinated well , fresh seeds helping in this regard I think . I pricked them out a couple of calendar week ago and they are doing very nicely . I will maturate them on in the greenhouse over the wintertime and plant out in early spring .

4 – Nasturtium . If I can rephrase the Eagles , you could chuck them out , but they can never forget . I grew these as a jolly boat climber 5 or so years ago , then determine I did n’t like them much . In a carefully planned act of vengeance , they return each yr , wanted or not . Could be worse .

5 – Delphinium elatum , candle larkspur ( I opine ) . These were among the mystery story seeds from the HPS this twelvemonth . sow in early spring , I planted them out in a group of five in the front garden . I was surprised to find they are flower , tucked in behind a tithonia . I ’m not 100 % of my ID , the picture online seem to be very blue in comparing .

6 – Cyclamen . Every year I am sunnily surprised to see these . They are not easy to ascertain , tucked in between the compost bins , the trellis and a very unruly spot of lavender . Cyclamen purpurascens to me sound like they go in a Doctor Who episode , or possibly in the Giro D’Italia .
