I adore all my garden tools , and I think one of the reason I care horticulture is because I like possess an excuse to crop with my hands and use putz .
Two of my favorite tools are my soil sifters . There are a whole luck of rock in the stain where I ’m building my garden . I frequently need to dig down to the bedrock , and I do meet many areas where there ’s more rock than dirt .
This mean that a deal of my time is spend trying to separate the rock music from the soil . I need the rock’n’roll as building materials for all the wall and dance step , and I need the dirt to fill back into the bench once I ’ve build the retaining walls . To clean up the dirt , I pass it through my big greenish sifter . The resulting dirt falls into the big bucket below , and the rocks and gravel stay on the screen door . I use the gravel to cover the pathways in many place , and this lets me harvest in the garden even when it ’s soaked .
I have a smaller sifter too , with a low mesh . When I need really dainty dirt for seedling or potting , I use the little CRT screen to remove even the smaller sway .
I frequently mix steer manure in with the dirt when I ’m passing it through the screens , as that lend both constitutional stuff and a bit of nutrition to the result territory mix .
