The entree to the hive is reduced int he winter to keep out drafts and predator
Our honeybee and beehive had a serious first year at the farm – and now that the cold of winter has arrive – they have begun their own reading of hibernation . In realness – Apis mellifera do not formally hibernate – instead opting to constellate together to form a protective bollock around the all important queen . As they cluster , they move and winnow their annexe about to increase the temperature of the beehive and keep the queen safe and warm .
The honeybees are an important part of our farm and its succeeding success . Not only do they provide us with all of our honey needs throughout the class – they also furnish by aid to cross-pollinate all of our yield trees , grapevines and veggie and peak planting . In fact , they help so much that we will be increasing the beehive total from one to three next outflow .

The bees supply us with amazing love
Although we do do a brace of chore to help them make it through the winter – Apis mellifera are astonishing at taking attention of themselves and execute most of their own “ winterize ” duty .
For our part , we insert a reducer into the main beehive body to keep out cold-blooded drafts and aid to dissuade small mouse or varmint that may stress to rob the honey stored in spite of appearance . Since this is the first full year for our new hive – we also get out all of the honey on the bottom two part in place for them to have for winter use of goods and services . The honey is what they will exhaust to have the energy for all of that wing flutter and temperature ascendency . Some will also supplement the stored love and course their bee through the wintertime – but if you have a healthy hive with plenty of stored honey – it is not necessary . In plus , many apiculturist think that feeding bees through the wintertime only serves to draw predators and robber to the hive .

The bees provide us with amazing honey
The bee should be decent and warm in their hive – even when the farm is treat in a fresh blanket of coke .
The honeybee on the other hand are the real doer who prepare their beehive for wintertime . By now – they have been all around the hive sealing up petite crack and maw with propolis – a glutinous thick substance they secrete to seal out the winter . They have also trim their overwinter population by forcing a bombastic majority of the manlike bees out into the coldness to conk out . It may fathom rough – but the manly bees perform no work relate duty in the hive , and are but not needed through the wintertime calendar month .
If the temperature uprise above the 50 to 55 degree mark at any point throughout the winter – some of the bees will forage out and about to make what are called cleanup flights . This helps to keep the inside of the beehive clean . Beyond that – they stay in that tight cluster awaiting the arriver of spring – much like humans – except we spend it clustered in cover near a lovesome fire ! 🙂

The bees should be nice and warm in their hive – even when the farm is covered in a fresh blanket of snow.
