Favorite daffodils to plant this fall

For most of us , fall is starting to arrive — ice chest temperature , possibly even the scourge of frost . It ’s time to say so long to the summertime annuals and time to get going thinking about next spring . Gardeners are always such forward - thinking people ! No rather does one season arrive than we ’re already thinking about the one after it , or even the one after that . And of track , fall is the time when we start sticking bulb in the ground for an over - the - top give display . I ’ve been give out through my photos from springiness in the yesteryear , thinking about what I require to constitute more of this fall , and I thought I ’d share some of my favoritedaffodils . Did your bulb look good this preceding natural spring ? Or did you take any exposure of bulb displays you want to recreate in your own garden ? Send us some pictures to share ! And get some ideas on designing with bounce bulbshere .

My all - time favorite Narcissus pseudonarcissus is without a doubtfulness the refined , pure blank ‘ Thalia ’ ( Narcissus‘Thalia ’ , Zones 3–8 ) , featured above . It is a later bloomer and always wraps up the Narcissus pseudonarcissus season in all right expressive style . Each stem produce multiple flower for an incredible display , and each blossom is so refined and arrant it hand me tingle .

At the other terminal of the Narcissus pseudonarcissus season , one of the earlier Narcissus pseudonarcissus I ’ve turn is ‘ Rijnveld ’s Early Sensation ’ ( Narcissus‘Rijnveld ’s Early Sensation ’ , Zones 3–8 ) . It has large , authoritative - yellow , trumpet - mold blooms , and this is a picture I take aim on January 20   last year — in Virginia ! In colder climates it wo n’t bloom quite so betimes , but it is always one of the very first to bloom , and what a complete way to call in the arrival of spring .

I love the classic hybrid daffodil , but some of the miniature coinage are my favorites . The wicket - petticoat Narcissus pseudonarcissus ( Narcissus bulbocodium , Zones 3–8 ) is tiny , less than 6 inches marvelous , and stark . Put it in a raise bed or container where you may really enjoy the refined little flowers .

Another miniature bloomer is the cyclamen - flowered Narcissus pseudonarcissus ( Narcissus cyclamineus , Zones 3–8 ) , which holds its petal tangle back behind the bloom .

Taller and late blooming , the poet ’s narcissus ( Narcissus poeticus , Zones 3–8 ) is vigorous , long - lived , beautiful , and fragrant . What more could you need ?
